Ms Dynamite

Our weekly round-up of the weird and wonderful world of pop music...

It’s out with the old in Popland, as New Year comes early. Britney Spears has kicked her latest husband into touch, creeping up fast now on J.Lo. That’s Britney creeping up fast on her spouse record, not Kevin Federline moving in on Ms Lopez, although we shouldn’t rule anything out.

Also ditched this week is the Bob Dylan musical on Broadway, after just 28 shows. Can’t imagine why an ensemble cast all singing like ducks in a bucket would prove unpopular. And speaking of duck voices, news has leaked that Nelly Furtado will be guest starring in Portuguese soap Floribella, a Cinderella-esque rags to riches tale.

Going from riches to rags is poor old Sir Paul McCartney who, with heavy heart, is saying goodbye to the bit of wood that’s been in the family this last little while. Yes, he’s being forced to demolish the cabin in the grounds of his Sussex estate, because he failed to get planning permission. He won’t rush into things next time.

Someone else who’d do well to slow things down is Ms Dynamite. She was run off the track in Sky One’s The Race at the weekend at speeds of 100mph. The culprit? Surreally, AC/DC’s Brian Johnson. On the Highway To Hell, indeed.

The Beatles are all over the news again, with allegations that John Lennon had an affair with Alma Cogan. News? They’re also under threat in the all-time most No.1 hits chart from Westlife. The Irish troubadours scored their 14th chart-topper last night with The Rose, and now lie equal third with Cliff Richard, trailing only the Beatles and Elvis. They must be stopped.
